Prorating Proceeds From Pop Can Drives
How does it work?

Pop can proceeds are split between the pack and the family members that volunteer for the can drives.  2/3 of the proceeds are credited to scout accounts and 1/3 is retained by the pack for operating expenses.

The 2/3 portion is prorated among those that work at the can drives based on the amount of time they are working.  Everyone signs in and out to determine the number of minutes they work.  All the minutes are totaled, and each person receives a prorated share of the 2/3 portion.  For example, if

1) the can drive proceeds are $1200, then 2/3 of $1200 is $800 which is shared with the scout accounts.

2) if someone works for 90 minutes, and there are 1500 minutes total, their share is 90/1500 = .06 which is 6%.  6% of $800 =$48 which is credited to the scout account.  If a parent and their cub scout both work the 90 minutes, then 2 shares of $48 are credited to the scout account, a total of $96.  2 parents and a cub scout working 60 minutes each would earn 60/1500 = 4% each, or $32 per share.  Their 3 shares would net 3 x $32 = $96 to their cub's scout account.

Shares may be earned by cub scouts of our pack and their parents.  Siblings are welcome to help, but will not count towards scout account shares.  Any exceptions to this must be approved by at least two members of senior pack leadership (cubmaster, assistant cubmaster, committee chair, secretary/treasurer) before the can drive in question.

This process of prorating can drive proceeds is documented in parents meeting minutes from April 12, 2021.  The 2/3 share to scout accounts is described in the minutes from August 13, 2018.
