4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster

·         Brian was contacted by a Des Moines family moving to the area this summer, and their son intends to join the Pack as a first year Webelo in the fall.  There have been some discussions regarding a possible joint campout with the Des Moines Pack 88 and our Pack 25.

·         Secretary

·         The Pack calendar was reviewed by the group and changes made to the schedule on the website.

·         Treasurer

·         Troop financial report – The Pack has a balance of $1607.44 in the bank account, with $1505.59 in the general fund and $101.85 in Scout accounts.  We have a $171.29 balance at the scout office.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         Hickory Hills activities, May 14, report – The day’s activities went well with hiking, meals, and lots of fun time.  The group completed some advancement requirements during the day also.

·         Pack involvement at local parades – The council has reserved spots in the My Waterloo Days parade on June 10 and the Sturgis Falls parade on June 25.  Any cub scout can participate, either on their own or as part of a den or pack.  Contact Brian for more information.

·         Pack summer activities ideas – the Wolf Den is planning visits to help complete advancement activities, a place of reverence (like the 5 Sullivan Brothers museum) and a police station.  Other dens are invited to attend once the details are settled.

·         Advancement

·         Advancement activities – three Tigers completed their Tiger advancement requirements and received their Tiger badges.  Way to go Tigers!

·         Chaplain

·

·         Training

·         Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation training, May 7, report – Brian, Dave, and Jeff attended the all-day training program.  Outdoor cooking was covered well, as were the many methods and practices to follow Scouting requirements.

·         Equipment

·

·         Fundraising

·         May 7th pop can drive, report – The Pack received $203.60 for the May can drive.  The June drive did not appear to have as many cans and bottles (should receive check in next several weeks).  Next planned can drive is July 9.

·         Membership

·         Recruiting at St. Ed’s Spring Carnival, report – there did not appear to be much interest, perhaps due in part to the rainout and revised location.

·         Fall recruiting, need to start the planning process – Whitney has been contacted to help us get started in with our fall recruitment.

·         Does the pack want to recruit Lion Cub Scouts (Kindergarten age) next fall?  From the council website:

The Winnebago Council has been selected as a pilot council for the new Lion Cub program for Kindergarten boys.  Packs interested in participating in the pilot will need to apply through their district executive for permission and to receive their materials.  Lion Dens will require a minimum of six boys and their adult partners and an experienced Den Leader to serve as their Lion Guide.  Applications will be available through your district executive by the middle of May.  This program runs only during the school year, Lions may not sell popcorn or attend overnight camping events with the rest of the pack.  It is intended solely as an introductory program to Scouting.  Lion Cubs will receive their own activity workbook and will have a Lion Cub T-shirt as their official uniform.  For further information, please contact your district executive.

While the group feels the Lions Cub program might be desirable for the pack, there are concerns with the ability to recruit 6 kindergarten-age boys next fall, and being able to provide an experienced den leader.  Chris will contact the council to find out if these issues can be resolved without impacting the existing dens.

·         Round Table Update

·         Some items discussed above

·         No round table in June or July

·         Dutch oven cooking demonstration, great way to end the round table season!

5) Old Business

·         Summer pack activity at Ingawanis day camp.  The Pack will travel to Ingawanis Adventure Base on July 9 after the pop can drive and Food Bank service project.  They will take part in the day’s activities and Twilight Camp.  The Cubmaster and Den Leaders are working together to develop a meal plan.  Cost is $25 per cub scout and $5 per parent and sibling.  All family members are invited to attend.  Required paperwork includes:  Camp registration and payment; health forms for ALL campers (including adult leaders); and copy of health insurance card (front and back).

·         Troop trailer update – John brought the registration up to date and the trailer is available for use.

6) New Business

·         Den leadership for Tiger den – Mike would like to step back for a year, and Brian agreed to cover in the meantime.

·         Annual pack planning process – The group discussed the potential need to do some annual planning from program and budget perspectives.  Chris will put together a “strawman proposal” for the group to consider and change/modify as needed at an upcoming parents meeting.

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, July 11, 2016 at The O.P. (on Ridgeway Ave across from West High), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment – Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chris Klaren
