1) Meeting called to order by John Henry

2) Attending:  John Henry; Brian Klaren; Chris Klaren; Jeff Patrick; Andy Wolter

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes – November minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster – items addressed in following agenda items

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months:  Dec 15 pack visit to Waterloo fire station #3; January 8 has been changed from a pack meeting to den meetings; Pinewood Derby car kits will be distributed at Jan 22 den meetings; Feb 5 Scout Sunday mass

·         Pack management software update – the pack has a one year subscription to Scoutbook for advancement tracking.  It appears to have been updated with the new revised advancement requirements (at least by checking one Tiger adventure).  Parents will be invited to join in the next few weeks.

·         Health forms needed – health forms are still needed from 9 Scouts.  Families have been asked about once per month to get current.  The group discussed a deadline before the Jan activity – scouts can only attend if they are current on their form.

·         Treasurer – Troop financial report – We have a reconciled bank balance of $2563.72, comprised of $2302.65 in the general fund and $261.07 in Scout accounts.  We expect charges of approximately $940 for pack rechartering in December and $144 for pinewood derby cars in January, with income from the Dec can drive of $280.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         December activity:  John emailed the pack with information regarding the Dec 14 visit to Waterloo Fire Station #3 at 4:00pm.  Thank you John for making the arrangements.

·         January activity:  Sledding, UNI climbing wall, or something else?  The group discussed visiting the Thorp center during a weeknight for a combined pack activity and recruiting night.  Brian will contact them to get cost and availability information.

·         February activity: workshop days to start construction of Pinewood Derby cars, details TBD.

·         Scout Sunday, Feb 5 – we need a few parents to help coordinate this activity.  Andy will contact the church to verify that they are expecting us at 9:00 mass.

·         Advancement – no advancement activities recorded since the November parents meeting.

·         Updated Cub Scout advancement requirements – effective Nov 30, advancement requirements have been revised in response to feedback from den leaders who have run the new Cub Scouting program for a year.  Our roundtable commissioner described the changes as only requiring 2 meetings to complete an adventure instead of 3 previously.  Content has changed very slightly, intent has not.  Scoutbook looks like it has been updated appropriately.  The changes can be viewed at http://www.scouting.org/filestore/cubscouts/pdf/CubScout_Advancement_Modifications.pdf.

·         Service Projects

·         Pop can tabs, Dec 3 – approximately 28 service hours were performed at the last can drive removing the tabs from cans.  (2) one gallon bags of tabs have been collected since November.

·         Deliver Christmas presents from St. Eds – Jeff made several inquiries to St. Eds, but no replies have been received back yet.  Any activity arrangements will be shared with the pack if/as they are determined.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards information, update.  Books have been distributed to Scouts at the last meeting.  The group discussed Feb 5 as an aggressive target for awarding Parvuli Dei and Light of Christ at Scout Sunday on Feb 5.  Parents should start working with their Scouts to complete in the next 4 weeks.  Andy to check with St. Eds on lead time for processing the awards.

·         Training – No sub scout-specific training on the council calendar for the next 6 months

·         Equipment – no report

·         Fundraising – December 3 pop can drive was conducted by 7 Scouts and 7 adults, and is expected to net approximately $280.  The next can drive is planned for January 7.

·         Membership – As noted previously, a combined pack activity and recruiting event is planned for January.  Details TBD.

·         Round Table Update – Round table discussed the recent changes in advancement requirements.  Also, pack successes in pinewood derbies was discussed.  After the Scouts run their cars, some packs have an Open division, an essentially “anything goes“ class for adults and siblings and charge up to $20 per entry as a fundraiser for the pack.

5) Old Business

·         Pack recharter update – the roster is complete and other paperwork is underway.  Everything is expected to be submitted shortly.

·         Pack rosters – they will be updated with the parents input to limit their personal information and distributed this week.

·         Pack committees – Event and activity committees are needed to help reduce some of the load from the volunteer leaders.  Most are one-time activities requiring attention for the month or two leading up to them.  Upcoming events are Scout Sunday in Feb, and our combined Pinewood Derby / Blue-Gold banquet in March.  We would also like to have 2 or more parents coordinate photography for the pack for positing to our Unofficial Pack 25 Facebook account (a closed, by-invitation-only account).

6) New Business

·         No new business

7) Announcements

·         No den meeting on Dec 18 due to holiday conflicts.

·         Next parents meeting Monday, January 16, 2017 at The O.P. (on Ridgeway Ave across from West High), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment - Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chris Klaren
