Pack 3025 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by John Henry

2) Attending:  John Henry; Brian Klaren; Chris Klaren; Jeff Patrick; Mike Treinen; Andy Wolter

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes – January minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster – items addressed in following agenda items

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months – Feb 5 pack meeting changed to a den meeting; added March 4 pinewood derby track setup, car inspection, and “test and tune”; sledding activity TBD (weather dependent)

·         Pack management software update – all leaders and parents have been invited to join; nearly all leaders have responded and only one parent.

·         Pack rosters – updated and distributed to parents and leaders Dec 15

·         Health forms needed – health forms are still needed for 7 Scouts.  Reminders will be sent this week.

·         Treasurer – Troop financial report – We have a reconciled bank balance of $1988.85, comprised of $1519.43 in the general fund and $469.42 in Scout accounts.  Rechartering in December was a $932 expense, and income from pop cans was $298.  We expect charges of approximately $144 for pinewood derby cars in January, with income from the January can drive of $260.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         January activity:  Thorp Family Fun Center, Jan 18, 4-7 PM, in conjunction with cub scout recruiting night

·         February activity: start construction of Pinewood Derby cars

·         Scout Sunday, Feb 5 - Mike will contact St. Eds and Andy will contact Dan Parsons for info.

·         March activity – Pinewood Derby, Blue/Gold Banquet, and Friends of Scouting, March 5 (car inspection and weigh-in March 4).  Discussion during the meeting on rules, and Chris to send info to leaders for consideration.  Rules will be distributed with car kits at Jan 22 den meeting.  3 classes will be run:  Cub Scouts, siblings, and adults.  Siblings will follow rules for the Cub Scout class.  Adult class only needs to meet weight and size requirements, with no restrictions on wheels, axles, etc.

·         Spring Campout, May 12-14 – the group identified this weekend for a spring campout.  It may be a campout with Pack 188 or a campout at Maquoketa Caves.  More information TBD.

·         Advancement – advancement activities

·         1 Tiger belt loop was earned since the Dec 12 parents meeting.

·         Service Projects

·         A possible Food Bank service project is being investigated.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards information, update.  The boys in the pack are working on the Light Of Christ award with target completion and awarding in March.

·         Training – No cub scout-specific training on the council calendar for the next 6 months

·         Equipment – no report

·         Fundraising – January 7 pop can drive was conducted by 11 Scouts and 10 adults, and is expected to net approximately $260.  The next can drive is planned for February 4.

·         Membership – As noted previously, a combined pack activity and recruiting event is planned for January 18 at the Thorp Family Fun Center. 

·         Round Table Update

·         A schedule for Cub Scout Day camp was distributed, and a scanned copy of it can be found here.

·         The River Valley District Pinewood Derby is planned to be held April 8 at Scheels in Cedar Falls.  Pack winners will get free registration, and there will be a nominal fee for all others.  Rules and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

·         Tips for a successful pinewood derby were shared among participants.  They included using a banner for crowd control around the track, avoid gaps between heats, and some packs have a Lego Derby.

·         Pack 3025 was one of a number of units recognized for having scheduled their Friends of Scouting presentation in 2017.

5) Old Business

·         Pack recharter update – Our annual rechartering was completed in December, with 25 boys and 10 adults registered, for a total cost of $932.

·         Pack committees – We have not made significant progress on involving other parents in the pack activities, leaving the leaders to carry most of the load.  The next realistic possibilities for involvement are the March Blue/Gold Banquet & Pinewood Derby, and May campout.

6) New Business

·         No new business

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, February 13, 2017 at The O.P. (on Ridgeway Ave across from West High), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.
