Pack 3025 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by John Henry at 7:30 pm.

2) Attending:  John Henry; Brian Klaren; Chris Klaren; Jeff Patrick; Michael Smith; Mike Treinen

3) Review of previous meeting minutes  – August meeting minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster

·         Webelos 2 parents are working together to develop a plan for this den to advance in rank by the end of the school year.

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months – The dates for the December den and pack meetings were exchanged, with a Christmas party is planned for the pack meeting.

·         Health forms - 10 health forms have been turned in, 6 of them with health insurance card copies.  21 more health forms with insurance card copies are needed for the new cub scout year.  Please turn in a completed form for each cub scout and leader accompanied by a copy of your insurance card.  Email reminders will be sent.

·         Treasurer – Pack financial report:  The pack’s bank accounts total $2819.53, with $1978.10 in the general fund and $851.43 in scout accounts.  Scout account balances can be found at http://troop1waterloo.org/1/pack25/ScoutAccounts.pdf.  Contact Chris Klaren for other details.

·         Please submit any outstanding reimbursable receipts for the last campout as soon as possible.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         August 21 – Solar Eclipse party, noon to 2:00, report.  Despite cloudy skies, the eclipse was viewable in stages.  6 boys earned the eclipse award, and patches are expected in the next month.

·         August 26-27 – Maquoketa Caves State Park campout, report.  Awesome campout, nice place to visit.  The boys stepped up and helped out throughout the campout.

·         September 16 - Young Eagles Flights, 8:00-noon, Livingston Aviation at the Waterloo Airport (weather permitting).  Ages 8 and up only.  No cost (free), but show up early to get your flight scheduled.  Report.  The weather was good and at least 8 Cub Scouts from our pack were able to get flight time.

·         UNI Football, possible activity.  John contacted UNI and found 4 games with ticket prices of $18.50 each.  The group tentatively selected the Nov 4 game to attend as a pack.  Before making arrangements on our own, John will contact the scout office to see if they plan any scout nights at UNI football.

·         October 8 - Sunday at the Quarry, 11AM - 4PM, BMC Aggregates – Morgan Quarry, 4618 E Donald St, WaterlooClick here for more information.  It was suggested that the boys should wear their uniform shirt (without the neckerchief) to increase awareness of cub scouting.

·         October 28 - Cub Scout Spooktacular Day Camp, Camp Ingawanis, 1-9 pm, $7 if registered online by Oct 20, $10 day of registration at the door.  We will begin registration shortly after Oct 7.

·         November 10-12 - Pack campout, cabins at Camp Ingawanis.  Three cabins have been reserved, expected fees for the campout are $20 per person.

·         Advancement – advancement activities

·         2 Bobcat badges were earned this month in the Bear den.

·         Service Projects

·         Pop can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, report.  Due to the number of cans and bottles to sort, pop can tabs were not collected.

·         Yardwork/cleanup, discussion.  Brian will call the rectory to ask about service project opportunities.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards, update.  Everything has been submitted to the diocese, and we are waiting for the awards to come back.  Thank you to Mike Treinen and Matt Hennig for splitting the costs for the awards.

·         Training – October 15 – Cub Scout Leader Specific Training, First Christian Church, Cedar Falls, 3-5 PM.  Cubmaster & Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader, and Pack Committee.  The pack will cover any fees for leaders to attend.  Registration information will be provided when it is available from the council.

·         Equipment

·         Fundraising – September 9 pop can drive, report.  About $300 is expected from the September can drive that was manned by 8 scouts.  Next drive planned October 7.

·         Cub Scout popcorn – 1 scout in the pack is selling popcorn to help fund his scout account.

·         Membership – update

·         Fall recruiting on August 29, report.  11 interested boys with an accompanying parent attended roundup.  To date, 8 have joined the pack and registered, with one additional maybe.

·         October 7 - Cub Scout Fishing Derby, All NEW Cub Scouts welcome.  Time and location TBD, information from the council has been requested.

·         Round Table Update – update from Sep 14 round table.  We did not attend roundtable, but the following information was found in the pack’s roundtable packet that was picked up from the scout office.

·         Webelos Scientist Day 2017 – Sat, Nov 11, Bluedorn Science Imaginarium, Waterloo, 9am-4pm (different sessions offered).  This conflicts with our November pack campout.

·         October Roundtable – Thursday Oct 12, Hawkeye Community College, Bremer Hall Room #127 (Computer Lab), topic is rechartering

·         2017 membership fee increase from $24 per year to $33, effective Dec 1, 2017.  This will impact the pack’s rechartering fees in December, as well as fees for new Cub Scouts.

·         Guide to Safe Scouting handout

5) Old Business

·         Class B shirts, update.  No report as we seem to have passed the season where they are needed.  We will look at this again in mid-winter to get a head start on the camping season for next spring and summer.

·         Insulated cups to replace disposable water bottles at campouts.  No report.

·         Centralized and dynamic communications.  No report or discussion.  This item will be dropped for the time being, and brought back when there is more definition.

·         Summertime pack award, update.  This award is intended to motivate packs to offer activities throughout the summer and for boys to stay active in the pack during that time.  Boys earn the award by attending a pack activity during each of the 3 summer months, the pack earns it by offering activities during each month, and dens earn it by having 50% attendance during each month.  The pack offered activities each month, 2 dens earned the award (current Bears and Webelos 1’s), and 8 boys met the criteria to earn their pins.

6) New Business

·         Wood Badge – Chris will get information for this scout leader training that is being offered next year.

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, October 16, 2017 at The O.P. (on Ridgeway Ave across from West High), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment – Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:44 pm.
