–
Pack financial report: The pack’s bank accounts
total $3,064.38, with $2,090.55 in the general fund and $973.83 in scout
accounts. Scout account balances can be
found at http://troop1waterloo.org/1/pack25/ScoutAccounts.pdf. Contact Chris Klaren for other details.
·
Impact
of increased rechartering costs
on pack budget. B.S.A. recently
announced that the cost of their annual registration fee is increasing from $25
to $33. This additional $9 per person
cost is projected to take the pack from breaking even through the year (Sep2017-Aug2018)
to losing a bit under $500. The pack
committee will monitor this to determine what, if any, actions are needed to minimize
the impact.
·
Please
submit any outstanding reimbursable receipts for the last campout as soon as
possible.
·
Outdoor/activities
· UNI Football, possible activity, does the scout office have anything planned? The council has no UNI games designated for scout participation. We are tentatively planning the Nov 4 home game for the pack. John will email information to parents to determine interest.
· October 7 – New Cub Scout Fishing Derby, report. The scouts that attended found the event rainy, but fun.
· October 8 - Sunday at the Quarry, 11AM - 4PM, BMC's Morgan quarry, report. No report of any pack scouts that may have attended.
· October 28 - Cub Scout Spooktacular Day Camp, update. Information to the pack has been emailed to all families, followed by a reminder. Please contact Chris Klaren by Oct 20 for the $7 per person pre-registration fee. Day-of registration is $10 per person.
· November 10-12 - Pack campout, cabins at Camp Ingawanis, update. Not much response has been received from families for this campout. Mike will follow up to try to get more replies.

Up With Families
Spaghetti Dinner, Oct 15, report. We had
good turnout from the pack to help, resulting in 42 service hours. Unfortunately the dinner itself had a small
turnout.
·
Yardwork/cleanup,
update. Brian still plans to contact the
rectory for possibilities to help.
·
Chaplain
– Religious awards, update. The religious medals are on hand, need to determine
when to distribute them. Mike or Andy will
contact Father to see if he is OK with Scout Sunday in February. This would give other new scouts time to earn
their medal before then also.
·
Training
– October
15 Cub Scout Leader Specific Training.
No report.
·
Equipment
– A
new coffee pot was purchased and donated to the pack for our camping equipment.
·
Fundraising
– October
7 pop can drive, report. About $238 is expected from the October can
drive that was manned by 11 scouts. Next
drive planned for November 4.
·
Membership – the pack
currently has 35 registered youth and 9 registered adults. A current roster will be provided to the
leaders.
·
Round
Table Update – update from Oct
11 round table. Round table was
primarily concerned with training on the new on-line rechartering
application. There was some discussion
regarding the recent announcement that girls will now be permitted to join Cub
Scouts and Boy Scouts.
5) Old
Business
·
Insulated
cups to replace disposable water bottles at campouts. We need to get a number that families are
interested in purchasing, then decide on a quantity to
order. Andy will contact families to
determine interest.
·
Wood
Badge – update on training being offered next year Wood Badge is scheduled for next fall, with
an orientation meeting on August 18, and (2) 3-day course weekends on Sep 14-16
and Oct 5-7. Cost is $200 if registered
by March 30, 2018, increasing to $230 after June 1. Wood Badge is adult leadership training that
will not only train one for Scouting, but also leadership in the “real world”. The group discussed reimbursing $100 of the
training cost to registered adults in the pack.
6) New
Business
·
Girls in Cub Scouting – what are the pack’s future
plans? Pack leadership will meet with
key stakeholders at St. Eds (Father Bullock, Deacon
Larsen, Mr. Becker, current Girl Scout leaders, etc.) to set a direction prior
to Fall 2018 recruiting. Packs have the option
of staying boys-only, or accepting girls into their
own dens within the pack. Girls also
have the option of starting their own girls-only pack.
·
Rechartering – we received our
annual rechartering packet from the council and have
had some training with the on-line application.
The council would like to have rechartering
complete at the end of October and have a goal for all packs to be done by the
next round table meeting on Nov 9. A
more realistic goal that we will work to is Nov 30, a full month before our
charter expires at the end of December.
