3) Review of previous meeting minutes – October meeting minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster

·         Comments included in other agenda items

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months – the date for the December pop can drive was corrected.  Assignments were made for leaders to check availability for pack tours in January, with reports to be made at the Dec parents meeting.

·         Health forms, status – 21 have been received to-date.  Forms are still needed for 9 scouts and 2 leaders, and they will be notified before the Nov 19 den meeting.

·         Treasurer – Pack financial report:  The pack’s bank accounts total $2,994.20, with $2,212.74 in the general fund and $781.46 in scout accounts.  These amounts are before making transfers or reimbursements for last weekend’s campout.  Scout account balances can be found at http://troop1waterloo.org/1/pack25/ScoutAccounts.pdf.  Contact Chris Klaren for other details.

·         Campout reimbursements - please submit any outstanding reimbursable receipts for the last campout as soon as possible.  Either bring to the den meeting, or send a photo or can by email with a note for repayment by check or credit to scout account.

·         Scout accounts – With new families in the pack this fall, the following is a description of our Scout Accounts that the boys can fund to by working fundraisers to help pay for their scouting activities:

Each Scout has an account that is maintained with the Pack.  (Please note that the terms Scout accounts, Pack accounts, and individual accounts are used interchangeably and refer to funds retained by the Pack for use by the Scout to fund his scouting activities.)  A Scout’s share of the profits from a fundraiser is transferred into the Scout Accounts by the Pack Treasurer after a fund raiser is completed.  A Scout may request funds from his account at any time to pay only for scout-related expenses such as outings (including summer camp and the high adventure trip) and the purchase of clothing and equipment from the Scout office.  Parents may also make a deposit to their son’s account at any time for the same uses.

Any remaining balance in a boy’s account is forfeited to the Pack if a Scout becomes inactive or otherwise quits Scouting for more than one continuous year.  Scouts transferring to another unit should have their new Pack or Troop treasurer contact our Treasurer to make a transfer of their account funds.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         UNI Football, Nov 4, report.  3 families with 14 total participants were in attendance for a good UNI win.

·         October 28 - Cub Scout Spooktacular Day Camp, report.  12-15 scouts and adults from the pack attended with somewhat cool conditions throughout the day.

·         October 15 – Pack Halloween party, report.  Great weather and turnout, lots of fun.  The lights used after the sun went down were a great idea.

·         November 10-12 - Pack campout, cabins at Camp Ingawanis, report.  The 3 cabins the pack rented were well utilized, with 35 campers during the weekend.  Despite the cool weather everyone had a good time.

·         December 17 – Pack Christmas party, update.  Information will be shared as it becomes available.

·         Advancement – advancement activities, none noted

·         The Webelos Scientists Day at the Imaginareum was a very good program.  Recommended for next year’s Webelos, although it would be better if it was not held during our November campout weekend.

·         Service Projects

·         Pop can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, report.  Did not collect in November.

·         Yardwork/cleanup, update.  No report.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards, update.  If some of the boys want to earn religious medals this year, when does Mike need the completed applications so they can be awarded on Scout Sunday, Feb 4?

·         Training – October 15 Cub Scout Leader Specific Training, report.  Michael reported that it had some good information, mostly the tips and tricks discussed during the second half of the training.

·         Equipment

·         It was determined at the campout that a ball hitch & and 4-to-7 pin adapter for the scout trailer would have been very helpful.  Chris will work with the leaders to see what may be available as non-used spare parts and buy what is needed.

·         The group asks that families that are looking to get rid of various types of common camping equipment consider donating it to the pack.  Items mentioned include bow saws, spatulas, hand towels, and dish rags, although we likely need other types also.

·         Fundraising – Last pop can drive, report: 8 scouts participated and we expect a check of approximately $236.  Next drive is planned for Dec 2.

·         Membership – No new applications since Oct parents meeting.

·         Round Table Update – update from Nov 9 round table:

·         Presentation on Council, District, and Unit Commissioner Service

·         Webelos-to-Scouts transition plan for packs and troops.  This information will be shared with 2nd year Webelos and leaders to guide the transition to Boy Scouts.

·         Boy Scout Night at the Waterloo Black Hawks hockey tickets, Sat. Dec 9, $8 per ticket.  Deadline for registration is Thurs. Dec 7.  A separate email with more detail will be sent to the pack.

·         Den Chief Program.  A good program to provide contact with Boy Scout troops.

5) Old Business

·         Insulated water canteens to replace disposable water bottles at campouts.  No report.  The November campout further emphasized the need for the canteens to prevent the generation of trash from bottled water bottles.

·         Rechartering, update.  On track to complete by the December deadline.

6) New Business

·         Webelos to Scouts transition – the group had a good discussion on the topic.  There is a fair amount of uncertainty on the path to follow due to the current sunsetting of Troop 1 at St. Eds.  More discussiojn with the scout office to follow to determine our options.

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, December 18, 2017 at The O.P. (on Ridgeway Ave across from West High), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment – Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.

Tabled items for future consideration:

·         Class B shirts, review Dec/Jan (Brian)

·         Girls in Cub Scouting – what are the pack’s future plans?  Discussion needed with chartering organization.  Bring back to agenda in Feb 2018.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chris Klaren
