Pack 3025 Parents Meeting

Monday, January 15, 2018

(Find your Pack 25 information at http://www.winnebagobsa.org/Pack-3025-Waterloo-IA/)

1) Meeting called to order by John Henry at 7:30 pm.

2) Attending:  John Henry; Brian Klaren; Chris Klaren; Jeff Patrick; Michael Smith; Andy Wolter

3) Review of previous meeting minutes – December meeting minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster

·         Comments included in other agenda items

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months – moved February can drive from the 3rd to the 10th; added Pinewood Derby track setup and “test and tune” following the pop can drive on March 3; added KWWL tour on March 8.

·         Health forms, status – Completed forms are on hand for 25 scouts, and are needed for 3

·         Treasurer – Pack financial report:  The pack’s bank accounts total $1,704.81, with $920.49 in the general fund and $784.32 in scout accounts.  Scout account balances can be found at http://troop1waterloo.org/1/pack25/ScoutAccounts.pdf.  Contact Chris Klaren for other details.

·         Campout financial reports:  In following up discussion at the December meeting, a report was prepared showing income and expenses for our pack campouts (report can be found after the end of these meeting minutes).  The pack made money on 3 of the 5 campouts, and one very significantly where at least 2 meal reimbursements were not claimed.  It is not this group’s intention to use activities to fund the pack, nor is it the intention to incur significant losses.  Based on 4 of the 5 campouts, we are not far from this objective.  We will continue to monitor this situation during upcoming activities.

·         Please submit any outstanding reimbursable receipts for the last campout as soon as possible.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         January/February activity – while not in Jan/Feb, a KWWL tour was added to March 8.

·         February 4 – Scout Sunday, update.  The pack is confirmed to help with greeting and with coffee and donuts at 9:00am mass.  The pack should plan to meet at 8:30 in the church basement to organize for greeting and the procession.  Thank you Andy for organizing this activity.

·         Pinewood Derby car cut-out days – John Henry has volunteered his garage and will send information out to the pack for dates and times.

·         March 4 - Pinewood Derby & Blue/Gold banquet, and Friends of Scouting.  The group discussed having a potluck similar to previous years.  We will hold the banquet with the Friends of Scouting presentation shortly after everyone arrives, followed by the remainder of the afternoon with racing.  Details will be finalized at the February parents meeting.  As mentioned previously, the track will be set up on the preceding Saturday with an opportunity for cars to test on it.

·         Advancement – advancement activities

·         Some activities badges and belt loops were awarded during the month.

·         Service Projects

·         Pop can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, report.  Too cold to gather the tabs on Jan 6.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards, update – no report

·         Training – no report

·         Equipment no report

·         Fundraising – Last pop can drive, Jan 6, report:  One of our better drives recently in terms of donations, 9 scouts participated and we expect a check of approximately $360, with scout shares of approximately $20 each.  Next planned Feb 10 (weekend after Super Bowl Sunday).

·         Membership   no report

·         Round Table Update – update from Jan 11 round table – round table canceled due to weather, have not received information that is to be distributed.

5) Old Business

·         Pinewood Derby rules – “Rules in the box” vs. District Scout Class rules.  The group compared the 2 sets of rules and found them to be very similar.  The group agreed to adopt the district scout class rules for our scout class and sibling class, as they were a bit more explicit in what is and is not allowed, and they would allow our pack winners to participate in district completion with the same rules.  Open class (adults) were relaxed considerably, and both sets of rules can be found after the end of these meeting minutes.  Written copies of the rules will be provided at upcoming den and pack meetings.

·         Webelos to Scouts transition, followup from November parents meeting.  Discussions with our Wevelos 2 parents are needed to determine how to move forward with this.

·         Insulated water canteens to replace disposable water bottles at campouts.  An email will be sent to all families in the next month or so to gage interest and provide sufficient lead time before our May campout.

·         Class B shirts, review Dec/Jan.  No update, options will be explored for the next parents meeting.

6) New Business

·         No new business

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, February 12, 2018 at The O.P. (on Ridgeway Ave across from West High), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment – Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Tabled items for future consideration:

·         Girls in Cub Scouting – what are the pack’s future plans?  Discussion needed with chartering organization.  Bring back to agenda in Feb 2018.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chris Klaren
