Monday, May 14, 2018

1) Meeting called to order by John Henry at 7:30 pm.

2) Attending:  John Henry; Chris Klaren; Michael Treinen

3) Review of previous meeting minutes – April meeting minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster

·         No report

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months.  The schedule was reviewed and a June 8 fundraiser for parking at the Elks lodge was added.

·         Health forms, status – unchanged from last month, still need for 3 scouts.  With the school year nearly ended this item will not be tracked or reported on until next fall.

·         Treasurer – Pack financial report:  The pack’s bank accounts total $2,586.80, with $1203.49 in the general fund and $1383.31 in scout accounts.  Amounts do not include checks from the May pop can drives nor adjustments for the Backbone campout (reimbursements for food or transfers from scout accounts for campout fees).  Scout account balances can be found at http://troop1waterloo.org/1/pack25/ScoutAccounts.pdf.  Contact Chris Klaren for other details.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         April 28 – River Valley District Pinewood Derby, College Square Mall, report.  The event was held and entries from our pack were very competitive.

·         May 11-13 – Pack campout at Backbone State Park, report – It was a good campout with good attendance.  Weather was a little soggy and chilly at times, but everyone seemed to have a good time.  The trip to the Manchester fish hatchery was great.  The group decided that last minute cancelations should be charged $10 per person instead of the full $20 per person campout fee.

·         Advancement – advancement activities

·         Service Projects

·         Pop can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, report.  This was not done at the May can drive due to the large amount of cans and bottles that needed processing.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards, update – Mike need information from a few scouts before submitting the packets to the diocese.

·         Training

·         Position Specific Training - a deep dive into some of the training categories found a large number of online courses needed for completions to be considered “trained”.

·         New Youth Protection Training – Chris is in contact with the council to obtain the materials need to conduct the YPT2018 training as a group.

·         Hazardous Weather Training – Several leaders have recently completed this training.

·         Equipment – Due to concerns with a tire not holding pressure, Jim Lind checked the tires, repaired the valves as needed, and greased the wheel bearings before the last campout, free of charge.  Our trailer should be good to go for quite a while now, thank you Jim Lind!
The last campout highlighted the need for more donations of dish towels and dish rags.  Please bring any that you would like to donate to an upcoming pack or den meeting.  Thank you.

·         Fundraising – Last pop can drive, May 5, report.  The May can drive was very successful, as we anticipate receiving a check in the amount of $480-$520.  June 2 is the next planned can drive.

·         Managing Elks parking lots for My Waterloo Days and Irish Fest.  The pack will manage the parking in the 2 Elks Lodge lots during the My Waterloo Days parade on June 8 from 4-7 pm.  The pack will receive ˝ of the proceeds, with 1/3 of the pack’s portion credited to the scouts of parents that work the event (we do not want to mix cub scouts with cars in parking lots).  We will need 6 volunteers per shift (either (1) 3 hour shift or (2) 1-1/2 hour shifts, yet to be determined), and they should wear a Class A uniform (scout shirt) if they have one.
We are pursuing the same activity for one or more days of Irish Fest, although it seems as though we may in competition with other scout troops for this fundraising activity.  More information to come later.

·         Popcorn sales – while the pack has yet to determine if we will sell popcorn next fall, we will register before June 1 so that we have the option of doing so if we choose.

·         Membership – no report

·         Round Table Update – update from May 10 round table – The meeting at Camp Ingawanis focused on the upcoming changes with Family Scouting, for the most part reviewing and discussing information from previous round tables.

5) Old Business

·         Webelos to Scouts transition, followup from November parents meeting – no report

·         Family Scouting (Girls in Cub Scouting) – what are the pack’s future plans?  John contacted Deacon Larson, and they found no reasons to not pursue recruiting girls next fall.  John will contact Mr. Becker and potentially some current Girl Scout leaders at St. Eds to further close the loop.

·         Insulated water canteens to replace disposable water bottles at campouts.  Canteens have been received, paid for, and distributed to those that ordered them.  We have approximately 35 more available at $10 each for those that would like some.

·         Class B shirts – no report

·         Scout trailer registration, update – John paid the registration last January and was reimbursed for the $21 fee.

6) New Business
