Apr 28, Arrow of Light Crossover to Boy Scouts,
report. The ceremony was very well done
and meaningful for the boys crossing over and their families. The arrows the boys built were very detailed,
and the arrow shelves contructed by David Arntz were very intricate with many
of the symbols and phrases that the boys learned in their cub scout
career. Congratulations to Tyler Arntz,
Zachary Patrick, Calvin Smith, and Jacob Wolter in reaching the next level of their
scouting journeys! And a very big thank
you to the leadership that David Arntz and Jeff Patrick provided to their den
and the entire pack.
Based on feedback of some of the
people in attendance, next year we will try to provide a better audience
experience with a public address system and hold the ceremony closer to the
bleachers; look at having some poster board displays with pictures of the pack
in various activities, featuring the scouts crossing over; maybe have some
light refreshments; and designate the crossover ceremony as a pack meeting as
it is important for our younger scouts to participate and observe this ceremony
so they can inspire to reach it also.
None of this is meant to detract from this year’s event, as it was very
well planned and executed.
·
Service Projects
·
Planting
trees at Pine Ridge State Park, May 4 – As part of a state-wide state park
conservation project, the campers helped plant trees in the park on Saturday
for about 1-1/2 hours, or 60 hours total for the 40 participants. Well done!
·
Pop can
tabs for Ronald McDonald House, on-hold.
·
Chaplain
– Religious awards,
update. Paperwork has been submitted for
the final two cub scout religious awards for this school year. They will be awarded when they are received
in 2-6 weeks.
·
Training
– With
our two Arrow of Light leaders moving to Boy Scouts with their sons, the
pack needs to hve one or two more leaders receive the BALOO training (Basic
Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation). We
just missed a training session in early May, and will watch for the next
training session offered by the council.

Pop can drives, report
o
Apr 6:
$847.10 check received 5/8/19, deposited 5/9/19; 15 Scouts participating,
$37.65 share per scout. Best month
ever. Previous best was Nov 2018 with
$658.
o
May 11:
Estimated check $395, estimated $43.89/scout; 6 scouts participating. A very good turnout considering there was a
West High pop can drive at the same time.
o Next scheduled can drive is June 1.
o
Chris
will buy some business card templates to print as Thank You cards for people
contributing to the can drives with reminders on them for the date of the next
one.
·
Elks parking for My Waterloo Days parade, June 7, update. The pack will manage parking at the 2
lots owned by the Elks Lodge from 4:00-7:00pm, and will receive 50% of the
proceeds. 1/2 of the pack's portion will be earned by adults working the
parking, and it will be credited to their son's scout account. Last year the
pack earned $390 for the 3 hours of work.
This is an "adults only" event, as we do not want to mix cub
scouts with cars in the parking lots. Sign up for
one or more of the time slots at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b054fa4ad23abf49-elks2.
·
Elks parking for Irish Fest, Aug 2-4, what time
