2020
1) Meeting called to order by
Matt Hennig at 7:37 pm.
2) Attending: ;
Matt Hennig; Chris Klaren; Chris Mayer; Chris Steies; Mike Treinen; Ron
Wing
3) Review of
previous meeting minutes –
June meeting minutes approved.
4) Reports:
·
Cubmaster
· State park reservations opened up in early July for group camping. Reservations were made for Maquoketa Caves State Park, but it was learned that the caves themselves are not open at this time. As an alternative, the group settled on camping at Backbone State Park, and Mike made reservations at the south campground by the lake. The group discussed campout sanitation and logistics, and Mike will send an email to the entire pack.
· We need to make sure we have a solid plan for recruiting, with activities for the kids while the parents are at the meeting. We would like to set a gathering time
·
Secretary
· Review pack schedule for next 3 months – no changes were made to the schedule.
· Health forms, update: 47 complete (2 of those need insurance cards), 4 needed (all scouts)
·

$6,719.64 general fund
$10.00

$609.38

$136.50 unit account at scout office
$11.25 cash
Income since the last parents meeting is $880.40
in 1 pop can check, and expenditures of $106.41 for advancement and awards.
·
Outdoor/activities
· June 28 – Crossover, report. There was a great pack turnout for our oldest scouts to cross over into boy scouts, and for the younger scouts to receive their awards. Troop 29 performed a very nice crossover ceremony that will be remembered by the participants.
· July 24-26 - Cub Scout campout, Backbone State Park. Please respond promptly to Mike’s July 15 email as we need to get a fast headcount for food purchases. The group will leave from the scout garage at 5:15 Friday, July 24. You may leave at a different time and meet us at the site. Cost is $20 per participant (scout accounts can be used to cover this cost).
· Sep 12 - Young Eagles flights, 8:00 am to noon, Waterloo Airport, ages 8-17, free! This is for ages 8-17, and has been popular with our older scouts the last few years. More info and online registration at https://youngeaglesday.org/?yedetail&event=7aXwHVd7l
· Summer and fall activities, discussion. We plan to have a bottle rocket night in August, with scouts building their own rockets for space flight. The other meeting night will feature games and other activities.
·
Advancement – no new advancements
·
Service Projects
· Update on food bank and other potential projects. There was some discussion about doing something at the den level.
·
Chaplain – Religious awards, update. Next year’s Webelos 2’s have 4 scouts that
have completed Parvuli Dei, and Chris Mayer is trying to address to more
scouts.
·
Training – BALOO training is currently scheduled for September 11-12, but
registration does not appear to be open yet.
Leaders, please complete the online Safe Swim Defense training before the
July campout.
·
Equipment – LP heated griddle/grill, update.
The 36” griddle proposed for purchase has been cancelled, and replaced
with (2) 22” griddles. Due to a sale at
a local store, the 2 smaller griddles were significantly less expensive than
the 1 large griddle, and will provide more flexibility in preparing meals.
·
Fundraising – Pop cans, update
·
Pop
cans, update. The July can drive was a
monster, as many redemption centers are closed.
We expect donation activity to decrease to a more normal level when the
in-store centers are mandated to open in late July. A summary of recent can drives follows:
