Pack 3025 Parents Meeting

4) Reports:

·         Cubmaster

·         Charlie Donohue is stepping down as leader of the Bears den.  The pack thanks Charlie for his exemplary leadership of the den from Lions through Wolf.

·         John Nees will step up as Assistant Den Leader for the Webelos 1 den.

·         Mike and Matt will be working to identify Assistant Den Leaders for those dens that have none.

·         Secretary

·         Review pack schedule for next 3 months – Wild Wonders Cub Scout day camp on Sep 18 added to website schedule.  The pack Halloween party will be held at the Oct 17 meeting.

Since the last parents meeting, we had income of $1833 in 2 pop can checks, and expenses for the Maquoketa Caves campout, $45 in awards, and $160 for scout account reimbursements.

·         Quarterly budget review.  Budget performance was reviewed, and with one month left in our fiscal year (ends Aug 31), our general fund is well above the amount predicted by the budget set in July 2020.  Our very successful pop can drives continue to drive our finances.

·         Outdoor/activities

·         July 30 – Aug 1 – Pack campout at Maquoketa Caves State Park, report.  Every parent at the campout helped in one way or the other, thank you!  It was a relatively small group camping, but a great campout nonetheless.  3 flags were retired at a retirement ceremony, with great respect shown by the youth and parents in attendance.

·         Pack visit to National Guard Armory, update.  Ron will get a list of dates that work for them.

·         September 18 - Wild Wonders Cub Scout Day Camp, 8:00am – 3:00pm, Tosanak Recreation Center, Marble Rock.  A registration link has been posted to the pack website.

·         September 18 – Young Eagles flights, 8:00 am to noon, Waterloo Airport, ages 8-17, free! Rides given first come, first served.  This is for ages 8-17, and has been popular with our older scouts the last few years. ·         October 23 - Spooktacular!  Ingawanis Adventure Base, more information TBD

·         November 5-7 - Pack campout, cabins at Ingawanis Adventure Base, update.  All cabins at camp have been reserved for the pack.

·         November 20 - Scout Night at the UNI Dome, Northern Iowa vs. Western Illinois, 1:00 PM, $10 per ticket.  Register at https://mycouncil.winnebagobsa.org/Event/4826Registration ends Sep 12.  Contact Chris Klaren before Sep 11 to reserve your tickets.

·         Advancement – advancement reports.  Leader updates are needed to determine progress.

·         Service Projects

·         Canned food to be collected at a fall pop can drive, Sep or Oct?  Defer to next meeting.

·         Chaplain – Religious awards, update.  No change, as no one is working on them now.  Revisit in October.

·         Training – Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) being planned for September 24-25, Ingawanis Adventure Base.  Register at https://mycouncil.winnebagobsa.org/Event/4803.  $25 registration fee will be reimbursed by the pack.

·         Equipment – Matt is buying Swiss Army knives to give to scouts as they earn their whittling chips.  Cost to the pack is about $15 each.

·         Popcorn sales – contact Chris Klaren if your scout’s family would like to sell popcorn to raise funds for scouting.  Sales start Sep 11 and end Oct 25.

·         Membership

·         Current roster: 43 youth and 12 adults (no change to either)

·         2021 fall recruiting, recruiting key dates and plan.  Matt to contact Mr. Becker and the council to set up dates for “kid talks” in the school and designated recruiting nights.  We are looking at setting up an outdoor display of a campsite complete with a tent and campfire.

·         2021/2022 Pack activity plan.  Revisions to a proposed activity plan were noted and will be made before distribution to prospective scouts and parents.

·         BSA national fees increase.  Rechartering fees currently in effect have been raised to $72 per youth ($6 increase), and $45 per registered adult ($3 increase).  This planned increase was communicated last year to the councils and units.

·         Round Table Update

·         Popcorn sales start Sep 11

·         Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training is Sep 24-25

·         BSA National membership fees are increasing as expected

·         Wild Wonders Cub Scout Day Camp Sep 18, Lions, Tigers, Wolves, & Bears (grades K-3)

Other possible activities include, but are not limited to:  compass/orienteering; lazer tag; Ninja Gym (Jesup); Police, Fire Station, or National Guard Armory visit; hospital tour; helping needy at church with fall (or spring) yard work – leaves, cutting branches, etc.; volunteer at the Food Bank; bike safety and a bike ride; shooting BB guns at Black Hawk Park; frisbee golf; ice skating; visit petting zoo at Cattle Congress grounds; John Deere museum visit; a fall hike at a local park, Hartman reserve or Green Belt for leaf identification and geocaching.

 

 

 

Cub Scout meetings are generally scheduled on the first and third Sundays of each month at 6:00 PM at St. Edwards School.  The scheduled Sundays may occasionally be changed due to holidays or Pack activities, and all changes are communicated by email.  The schedule and other Pack information can be found at:
