receipts and $916 in new scout fees. Expenses were $674 in
registration fees to the council, $499 for cub scout handbooks, and $99 in
reimbursements.
· Outdoor/activities
· October 1 - UNI Football Scout Night,
report Ron and Mike both
said much better than last year, was a nice event, Laura sent Mike a nice
thank-you for help.
· October 2 - Sunday at the Quarry,
10am-4pm, report Ashley was
able to attend and said that they had a number of
geodes; she also commented on a big sand pile where the kids could dig for
prizes.
· October 22 - Spooktacular, register online
at https://mycouncil.winnebagobsa.org/Event/5099. Be sure to register as individuals. $15
per person until Oct 14, $22.50 per person after Oct 14, registration ends Oct
21. Costs can be reimbursed from your scout accounts! Reviewed.
· October 30 - Pack Halloween party, update Discussed that there would be gaga ball, pumpkin
bowling, and hopefully 1-2 other games. Thought we should request Chris Steies
bring his battery light.
· Cabin campout, Ingawanis Adventure Base,
Nov 11-13 – update Email has
gone out. All cabins rented. Matt H plans to do whittling chip with knives for
those boys who complete it. Other activities include rank requirements, gaga
ball, hiking, and downtime. Meals are going to be as follows (Note: some
of this was confirmed in the days that followed the parents’ meeting, so
wouldn’t properly be considered “minutes.” These updates will be noted below):
·
Friday
Supper: Mike.
·
Saturday
Breakfast: Ron/Webelo 1s (this is an update; at the meeting this was for
Phil/Bears).
·
Saturday
Lunch: John Nees/Webelo 2s (this is an update; at the
meeting this was still open).
·
Saturday
Supper: Phil/Bears (this is an update; at the meeting this was for Ron/Webelo
1s).
·
Sunday
Breakfast: Ashley/Lions.
· Advancement – No Advancement concerns.
· Service Projects – Discussed possibly having a small service activity while cabin
camping, depending on availability. Cleaning out cabins was mentioned.
· Chaplain – Religious awards, update. Mike needs to send some completed forms in;
a couple of Arrow scouts need follow-up.
· Training – October 15-16 - BALOO training,
Camp Tanglefoot, Clear Lake. Leaders, registration closes Sep 29, the
pack will pay the registration fee. Register at https://mycouncil.winnebagobsa.org/Event/5212/Register Ashley completed Baloo and had praise for the event; said she
learned a number of activity ideas, and she would like to consider skits for
the cabin campout. Skits are encouraged, but the group thought was that one
would probably be enough since there are no den meetings between now and the
campout.
· Equipment –
·
At
the time of planning the UNI tailgate, 2 long white folding tables were noted
as missing. It was determined that Troop 29 had one they had used, and Steve
Lathrop was inquiring of Aaron Becker and Toni Pint Burk to see if they knew of
someone possibly using the other. Committee authorized Ron to purchase 2
similar folding tables with pack funds, as regardless of recovery, 1-2 of the
existing tables were showing signs of falling into disrepair.
·
Additionally,
Ron spent some time on Sunday removing a trailer tire (that had been going flat
quickly) and brought it to Lind for work (there was a valve stem leak). The
group thanked Ron for taking care of that.
· Fundraising – Pop cans, update There was general
consensus that can drives were going well and advertising should
continue to be limited to the parish bulletin and possibly the sign on the
fence, but that we should not renew social media advertising at this time.

· Membership – Reviewed.
· Roster: (includes
new scouts): 35 youth active (+11), 8 inactive; 13 adults active, 1 inactive
· Recruiting – report: (13)
new scouts have joined the pack since the start of the school
year: (8) Lions, (2) Bears, and (3) Webelos
· Round Table Update – report from October
5) Old Business
· Canteens, update (Chris S) Chris Steies was not in attendance, but a
discussion was held concerning the fact that a box of unused canteens (the
prior version) was located in the scout shed, and
there was a suggestion they could be given as prizes at campouts. The group
liked that idea.
· Class B t-shirts (Matt) Matt H will check with his provider as to
floating 3 or so new t-shirt designs. Matt will try to bring the unused stock
of prior t-shirts to a future meeting to be distributed to scouts who don’t
have t-shirts (depending on fit and limited to supply on hand).
· Sign for scout garage – no can &
bottle drop off except during can drives: what should the signs say?
The group agreed that each
of them would try to email ideas for a sign within a week. Some ideas were
discussed; the concerns were (a) making it clear; (b) keeping it short; (c)
trying to be appreciative; and (d) having a spot to note the date of the next
can drive (in some manner other than dry-erase, which
would not stand up to weather and would be susceptible to chicanery). The group
agreed there should be 3 signs – one on the overhead door, one on the north
side, and one on either the south side or the fence surrounding the dumpsters.
6) New Business
· Matt H requested that the pack recognize Alex Hennig, who
simply needs to pass Board of Review in order to be
honored with the rank of Eagle. This makes him the first Pack 25 scout, since
the pack was re-started in 2015, to ascend to Eagle. It sounds like the Court
of Honor will likely be in January.
*
Mike suggested that we recognize Alex at an upcoming pack meeting and give him
a chance to say a few words then, either in November or December, and invite
the cub scouts to attend Alex’s Eagle Court of Honor. The group agreed on this.
*
Then Matt asked if the pack could prepare something like a framed certificate
for Alex. Ron suggested refurbishing one of the plaques that are in the garage
with the pinewood derby trophies. Mike said that could be done, but rather than
potentially getting bogged down with preparing a physical award to present –
because that might delay and cause us to overlook the recognition at an already
busy time of year –
we should simply focus on recognizing Alex in person at a pack meeting, and if
we want to follow it up with a certificate we can do so later on. The group
agreed.
