Pack 3025 Parents Meeting

1) Secretary Nathan Leonard called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.

2) Tim Fautcher, Matthew Kauten, Mason Moore, Mike Treinen, Brock Weliver, Lester Venz, Nathan Leonard, Jeff Mastin

3) Review previous meeting minutes – no concerns

4) Reports & Updates:

·      Cubmaster - Pinewood Derby cars have been picked up from the scout office. Brock discussed Scouts leading the pledge at the next council meeting, its been added to the scout caendar, discussed renting Tech Center space for pinewood derby builds and possibly a pack meeting.

·       Treasurer - Nathan has provided Lester with the latest estimated and final totals for can drive for October, November, December, January. Lester will be running the final numbers and deductions and will then provide to Matt Kauten to update the website. Scout office account is low, commitee agreed to adding $500 to the account. Matt K will deliver the check to the scout office. We still need to deduct $20 per scout and siblings that attended November camp out. There was discussion related to the $20 camp fee and if its enough to cover camping expenses. We will review Camp expresses in relation to the registration fees and determine if it warrents increasing the fee for future campouts.

·      Outdoor/activities

·        Dave Boesen Pack Meeting Update

·        City Council Meeting - Scouts Leading Pledge of Alliegance

·        Upcoming Pinewood Derby - Brief discussion on trophies and planning. The pack will provide Pinewood Derby badges to any scout who completes their Pinewood Derby car and races. Matt K will pick up badges from the scout office. Mike T mentioned Chris Steies may be available for Derby cutouts as an alternative to using the Tech Center.

·      Review pack schedule for next 3 months - Schedule approved until April 20th, Added Waterloo City Council Meeting and District Council events to calendar. There was discussion on if the sprint campout should continue to be on Mother's day weekend. Possible campsites we're discussed. Mason offered his farm as a possible location for a campout, day trip, service project or other scout event. Discussed upcoming Scout Sunday in February

·      Equipment - New tables were purchased for glass can sorting for use in Scout Garage. Discussion on using Blessed Sacrament's track for Pinewood Derby Need to determine if available.

·      Membership

·        Roster:  23 youth/22 active, 12 adults/12 active.

No changes in membership. 2 leaders need to complete registration/renewal forms

·         Fundraising – Pop cans, update - As mentioned above, Nathan provided up to date totals and estimates for the past 4 months and has it broken down by scout. We should have the website updated soon. Lester mentioned he has a person willing to donate a trailer full of can/bottles to the can drive, he lives just outside of Grundy. However the pack would need to pick up the cans.

                                     Next can drive February 1, 2025

·         Round Table - Jeff discussed roundtable, this Month's meeting was emphasing training. Only 1 of our leaders is showing as up to date in my.scouting.org with the latest training. Completing your myScouting courses related to your specific leadership role is recommended and discussed in the meeting. Use my.scouting.org or myscouting app. In addition, many leaders also expressed interest in Baloo training. Currently only 2 pack leaders are Baloo trained. There was also discussion on upcoming counil events. District Awards will be held Sunday, March 9, nominations must be submitted by Februrary 21st

5) Old Business

·         T-Shirts - Email was sent out to pack for shirt sizes for scouts

·         Journey to Excellence 2024 Final - Pack Successfully Completed Silver this year. The BSA will no longer be offering JTE in 2025 and beyond. Scouts and leaders will be provided with a Silver JTE badge.

·         Further Discussion / Planning Combined Pack & Troop Fundraising - Tenative plans to begin combined can fundraising drives starting in March

6) New Business

·         Pack Calendar Available on Scoutbook & Scouting App - Both the website and the scoutbook app will be updated with pack scheduled events. Den leaders have the ability to add Den specific events for their scouts in Scoutbook. Mason demonstrated on his phone how the Scoutbook app calendar works and how events show up.

·         BSA insurance certificate renewal.  Working with the council office to obtain the certificate of indemnity needed for the pack and Troop 29 to continue to use church facilities for our meetings and activities after our current certificate expires March 1. We got a response from Laura by email that she is on top of getting this done in time. Jeff will be working with her to complete the process.

·         Pack Trailer Registration Renewal - Mike contacted Matt H and he will be renewing the trailer for another year

·         District Awards – nominations must be submitted by Februrary 21st

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, February 17th, 2025 at 1850 Patio & Grill, meeting starts at 7:00 PM.

Since September 15, the pack received income of $1038 in 1 pop can check, $20 in fundraiser donations, and $369 in new scout registrations.  Expenses were $726 for new member registrations, $99 for a case and locks for health forms, $64 in scout account reimbursements, and $26 for handbooks.  Our can redemption center owes the pack $2423 for 4 truckloads of returnables from September 12 – October 8.
